For the past month or so, the fifth grade has been building a Little Free Library for Sanderson and the surrounding community. Little Free Libraries are small, book-sharing boxes or structures that are placed in public spaces, like front yards or sidewalks, for anyone to take a book or leave a book. They function on an honor system, with no borrowing time limits or fees. The idea came about after Ms. Johnson read her class a book called The Lost Library by Rebecca Stead. The Lost Library is about a boy who uncovers the mystery of the town library that burned down. With help from the Mary Lyon Foundation, Ms. Wilson ordered a Little Free Library kit. Each week, a small group of fifth graders visited the library to help construct the Little Free Library. We are finally finished! Soon, the library will be installed under the covered area near the front doors of the school. We hope you stop by to take or donate a book this summer!
